Fannie Allen was born in Cave Springs, Missouri on June 23, 1884, to parents Aaron and Susan (Wadlow) Herron. Before 1900, her family moved to South Calhoun Street in Ash Grove. Fannie was attending school in that year. She was single and living with her parents near Ash Grove in 1910. Between 1910 and 1920, she married George Allen, with whom she had three children. George and Fannie appear to have moved to Springfield sometime between 1920 and 1933. Fannie was living at 911 E. St. Louis Street at the time of her death in 1933. While an Ash Grove Commonwealth newspaper article (shown at right) states that Fannie was married to George at the time of her death, they may have actually separated or divorced by that time, as Fannie's death certificate lists her husband’s name as "Malvin". Fannie died on February 26, 1933, apparently due to pneumonia (Russell 2012). The Ash Grove Commonwealth reports that funeral services were held at the Ash Grove "Colored Baptist church" and that Fannie was interred "in the Berry cemetery west of town."
