George W. Allen was born in Kansas on May 24, 1874. His father’s name was John Allen. By 1920, George had moved to Ash Grove, Missouri, was working in 1920 as a laborer at the Ash Grove Lime rock quarry, and had married Fannie Herron (see entry for Fannie Allen). George and Fannie had three children together. The couple moved to Springfield sometime between 1920 and 1933, and Fannie died in that city in 1933. George died at his Springfield home—1109 Texas Avenue—on December 16, 1949. He was working as a laborer at the time of his death (Russell 2012). His death certificate states that he was buried at the "Ash Grove cem" on December 19, 1949.
Grave Marker: George Allen's specific place of burial within the Berry Cemetery is unknown and there is no known individual headstone for George. However, George is memorialized by the inscription of his name (shown below) on the new monument, installed in 2017, for individuals interred in unmarked graves in the Berry Cemetery.
