Sampson “Samp” Farley was born in Texas about January 1, 1865, to Henry and Mary (Yaeger) Farley. He moved with his parents to Greene County, Missouri sometime before 1869. In 1880, he was living with his parents and brothers on their farm near Ash Grove. On June 26, 1886, Samp married Catherine Boyd in Greene County. The couple had one daughter together, Edna, before their divorce on September 15, 1894. By 1910, Samp was living with his widowed mother in Ash Grove, and working as a laborer at odd jobs. At the time of his death on July 18, 1915, Samp was working as a liveryman in a livery barn (Russel 2012).
Grave Marker: Sampson Farley's specific place of burial within the Berry Cemetery is unknown and there is no known individual headstone for him. However, Sampson is memorialized by the inscription of his name (shown below) on the new monument, installed in 2017, for individuals interred in unmarked graves in the Berry Cemetery.
